The calm before the race: serene scene at the ticket booth on day 1 of festival 
Dresses/walks/smiles like a ticket promoter... Must be a derby ticket promoter!  Mad Dash: With $1000s in prizes, and only minutes remaining... crowds clamor... All lanes open at the Derby booth 
Young lady, that's an over-the-shoulder mystique smile fit for the red carpet :) Thx4 the pose! 
 Meanwhile, at the podium... various status & data streaming in from all the outposts via 4G. All systems GO! The quackmaster is about to pronounce commencement of race... Ready! Set! POUR!  3-2-1, Lift and Dump: Arrg!! They weigh a ton! Were they mistakenly being prepped for Foie gras? Splash: At one fell swoop, a thousand birds plunge into the canal. Well, all but one clever lone duck... as you shall see.  Hey, what's the hurry?! I'm sitting pretty on the bridge deck, while y'all jockey for position to get ahead of one another. By the time the boy scout notices and kicks me down, I'd have missed the traffic jam... just in time to make a fashionable grand arrival... nabbing the "last duck" prize!  Moments After Launch: Lateral swimmers passing under Main Street canal bridge. A sight to behold.  Into The Light: Emerging from the shadow of canal bridge. UFO* sighted eastbound @ 0.00001 mph. *Unidentified Floating Object 
 Bracing for 1000 Incoming: Official flock recovery vessel stationed at the end of aquatic race course, with the crew looking on intendedly.  Unscheduled Halftime Show: Wake making demo  Uh-oh... I think we just caused a few ducks to jump the barrier. Don't matter... gives 'em duck catchers somethin' to do.  Sum Ting Wong?? Nah... Surely, the organizers must have arranged for this CIA cap as a subtle homage to their official photographer ;) Clearly, it stands for Chinese In America! Hmm... I wonder if there's another vessel operating in the vicinity... If only... that sister ship sports a cap reading: FBI. That'd be sooooo neato for my gooda friend Ernesto. He's Full-Blooded Italiano! 
 
 "...to race or not to race..." ponder the deserters, as the duck catcher meticulously round up the few would-be free-rangers.  The "Net Effect": All escapees rejoin their fellow drifters in the pen. 
 Sediment at the delta - down to the final few ducks  No, that's not a friendly wave to the paparazzo photographer at a distance ashore. He's signaling Race Command Central the capture of duck #5.
